Our Purpose
|
Our purpose can be summed up in a single sentence: To seek to glorify God by helping people to receive life in Christ, to grow to maturity as a Christian, to become equipped for a life of ministry and to live a life of mission. This sentence can be de-spiritualised by looking at a parallel from the rugby field by looking at the law of "Crouch, touch, pause, engage". As all you rugby followers will know there has been a lot of controversy about the interpretation of the laws recently but one aspect of play that really intrigues me is the Scrum. In 2007 the laws were changed and each referee was instructed to deliver 4 instructions at the scrum; Crouch, Touch, Pause and Engage. This was mainly done for safety reasons to fix the distance between front-rows and reduce serious neck injury.
Here is the lesson: Crouch: Before we become a Christian, we have to bow down and humble ourselves before God. We have to repent, believe and be baptised. Touch: We have to learn to touch God in prayer and reading the Word and become involved with other Chrisiians through local church. Pause: We need to pause for training. Before we engage in service, we need to become equipped and ready for service. Engage: We need to get involved in some area of service within the church and in outreach to the community. |
